CITY OF ALBURNETT

OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK

ALBURNETT, IOWA  52202

The Alburnett City Council met in regular session January 14, 2008, at 7:00 P.M. at the Alburnett Fire Station Office.  Mayor Pearson called the meeting to order with Council Members Towe, Trumm, Titler and Boesenberg present.  Wood was absent.

Deputy Garron with Linn County Sheriff presented the Council with the monthly report.

Mayor Pearson stated that he had received a few calls regarding snowmobilers and he wanted to address the recent problems with snowmobilers not staying on the specified route and riding on the sidewalks.  Mr. Mendieta with the Frozen Few snowmobile club approached Mayor Pearson with a proposed solution which he explained as follows: Identifying the desired trail route, securing approval from the City of Alburnett, securing permission from landowners, marking the route with proper signage and informing the snowmobile public of the changes to the City’s policy.  By having a system in place it should provide ability for snowmobilers to ride while keeping the disturbance down for residents that don’t participate in the sport and also provide a way for local business to benefit from it.  Mr. Mendieta showed maps of existing routes in other areas and told of education that members of the club received.  In addition Mr. Mendieta expressed the gratitude for having the privilege to snowmobile in town and not wanting to lose the privilege is willing to work with the city in providing a solution.  There was discussion with the public and council.  Mayor Pearson stated that the proposed plan would be a win, win all around and asked the council if they were in favor of proceeding with the plan.  The council was in agreement of the plan.
